Welcome to the forum for practice assessors, work based supervisors and other involved in social work placements. I have used this thread to attach materials which you may find useful. You just click on the relevant bit of highlighted text and it comes up with the document for you to save onto your own machine. You have to look in each of the messages to get the attachments - there is nowhere on the rest of the site where you can click to find them all in one place. Pauline

Dementia handout. I devised this as a lecturer. It covers material which can be used from level 1 to PQ, so thought you might like it for students on relevant placements to read. You could then devise your own questions for them to consider according to the level of the student and their previous experience. Pauline 

Right I've cracked it now. I have to highlight a different piece of text in the body of the e mail for each attachment. I'm slow, but I get there in the end!. This one is quiz on dementia.

Valuing People quiz.

Hand out on ageism - developed this as lecturer and it's slightly in note form - thought you might like to cannibalise it/update it for students in older people's placements.

Some medical problems which can occur in old age - hand out and quiz - developed whilst a lecturer - long title to reflect that fact that old age does not equal ill health, so you should not put any symptoms down to old age, BUT to highlight that some illnesses are more common and how these can impact upon an individual. Have included some implications for social workers e.g. taking into account side effects of drugs when interviewing.

Materials addition. Natural ageing - lecture notes - designed to separate myth from reality as to what naturally changes during the ageing process. Some fun bits on sexual differences. Quite a bit of medical facts, so not sure you could use it as a straight hand out, but thought you might like it to use in supervision, group supervision or just to pinch bits out of it to explain something to a student or stimulate discussion. 

Disabilism --hand out showing how and some ideas on why people with disabilities can be discriminated against. It includes things on finance, which may change over time, so don't forget to update if you use it.

Models of disability - medical and social mainly - both these handouts were developed as part of teaching course, so might not be suitable in their entirity for practice assessors, but you might be able to use parts and they have bibliographies.

Transitions of young people with disabilties to adulthood.Hand out - done in 07, so be careful to update.  Pauline
