Research (are we getting better at it?)

There are organisations and groups that are dedicated to developing the evidence base of  effective involvement in social and health care education and training, services development, and research.

  • INVOLVE
Supported by the Dept of Health, this website showcases the resources and networks of health and social care researchers who involve service users and carers in their work. Much of the material can be used for other types of involvement activity.
  • Online PPI Specialist Library
A comprehensive collection of current knowledge and evidence about patient and public involvement in healthcare (PPI).  Managers, researchers and students can access, free of charge, all the latest information on user involvement in areas such as policy development and self-care, and on strengthening NHS accountability to patients and to local communities.
  • Social Care Online
Search a range of references relevant to involvement research.
  • Getting Involved Training Needs Analysis (August 2007)
Training needs analysis of people who use services, and carers who get involved in social care learning, training and development activity.
  • Getting Involved Report (August 2006)
A report on the first four phases of the project.
  • Getting Involved: A Summary of how the Reference Group developed (July 2007)
Chronology and summary of meetings from October 2006–July 2007.
